From July 13 to 14, the Radiation Protection Summit Forum, hosted by the China Institute for Radiation Protection (CIRP) and co-organized by the China Society of Radiation Protection (CSRP) was held in Taiyuan.
With the theme of “safety enabling development, nuclear power creating the future – opportunities and challenges of radiation protection”, Chai Zhifang and Wu Yichan, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Luo Qi, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, made thematic reports on environmental radiation protection, nuclear technology application innovation, characteristics of new generation nuclear energy technology, radiation protection and nuclear safety development. Li Sijin, President of Shanxi Medical University, Zheng Mingguang, chief engineer of nuclear energy of China Power Investment Corporation, Liu Senlin, chief expert of China National Nuclear Corporation, Liu Liye, President of CIRP, and other 14 domestic experts made reports at the forum.
The forum also invited experts from international organizations and institutions such as the International Commissionon RadiationUnitsand Measurements (ICRU), the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Labor Organization (ILO), and the Nuclear Energy Agency (OECD-NEA) to conduct online exchanges and discussions on international hot topics such as radiation bioeffects, nuclear fusion energy, waste safety and decommissioning management, and reactor radiation protection.
As host of the forum, the CIRP coincides with its 60th anniversary. Over the past 60 years, CIRP has always taken “the defender of nuclear energy and the pioneer of security” as its development mission and the responsibility of ensuring national nuclear safety. It has developed into the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary and public welfare scientific research institution specializing in radiation protection research and application in China. It has made historic contributions to the successful development of “two bombs and one satellite”, solved a number of radiation protection technical problems in the development of the nuclear industry, and Provide decision support for national government departments in emergency response such as Wenchuan earthquake and Fukushima accident. In the new era, new journey, facing the major national needs, CIRP is committed to being the escort of the “cornerstone of national nuclear safety”, accelerating the construction of “world-class” scientific research institutions, and making new contributions to the development of nuclear safety and the transformation and development of Shanxi.
During the forum, the participants also went to the exhibition hall of the CIRP, 3D dose simulation laboratory, source term protection and decontamination technology laboratory, nuclear environment simulation and evaluation technology laboratory, radiation ecology laboratory and other scientific research places for on-site visits.
The forum adopts the method of main venue and live video, and more than 20000 people watched the live broadcast of the forum.
